Online Lead Guitar Lessons That Won't Make You Re-Learn Everything You Know About Guitar

Online lead guitar lessons are hard to evaluate without being able to preview them first. Mercifully some instructors have gone through the trouble of putting up some websites with videos demonstrating a small amount of material included in their lesson plan.

It is my belief that the best way to learn & master is to choose lessons from a dealer who offers a complete set of comprehensive tutorials from introductory guitar playing to absolute guitar shredding mastery. I suggest this because such a comprehensive set of tools are designed based on a single playing philosophy, meaning that each successive lesson builds precisely on techniques taught in prior ones. It should be obvious that when you pick up a guitar and learn how to play as a beginner that the fundamentals you learn at that playing level should not change as you progress to later lessons... and yet that is not the case in many of the online lead guitar lessons I have seen. In the introductory lesson the instructor demonstrates a playing style with the right hand (strumming hand) in one position and using the pick to play with a different arm motion than what is used in the online lead guitar lessons later.

Simply put, the viewer of that type of lesson would have to re-learn a new right hand technique in the 4th DVD than what was taught in the 1st DVD, or try to guess which technique is correct (likely it is neither). That simply is not a well-conceived learning plan... and yet such inconsistencies exist in virtually all the online lead guitar lessons on the market. Many instructional books or videos are "one-offs" with no companion or advanced material at all. Others have advanced material that leaves out the fundamentals.
